Many prefer the prepaid card instead of getting a debit card because many times the card is backed by your bank account and if you over draw the transaction will still go through. The savings account that you hold at your bank will automatically transfer funds to your checking account so that your transaction will be covered. When you have a debit card you only need a checking account and often you are not covered if the card is over used. Cash-strapped Americans finally seem to have some help from the government, in the form of an overhaul of the credit card industry.
